Society tends to fictionalize the narrative of ‘carnie’ life. The goal of this work is to venture inside their private spaces and show the complexities of their life on the move—a kind of temporary rootlessness permeated by camaraderie and even love. I seek the moment my subjects leave behind their vanity and struggles. With some, a mesmerizing gaze in the lens is magical, for others, a sigh as long as the click of the shutter can reveal a shadowed detail. This collection is my effort to understand the complicated spirit of these individuals and to tell their story one picture at a time.
